ACCRA, Ghana – The U.S. Army, in partnership with Ghana Armed Forces and other partner nations, hosted a Regional Leader Seminar for senior military leaders in Accra, Ghana, May 29, 2017.

Held at the end of United Accord 2017, this is the third in a series of four regional seminars this year that brings together regional military leaders to discuss opportunities to further align partnership.

The RLS followed the inaugural exercise UA 2017 that was conducted at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra, Ghana, May 19-30. The 12-day exercise consisted of three separate events: a command post exercise, a battalion-level field training exercise and Jungle Warfare School.

The CPX brought together 15 African nations, five Western nations and five international organizations and was designed to provide a baseline knowledge on UN peacekeeping operations. The FTX was a bi-lateral exercise that tested squad-level proficiency in various combat skills. JWS provided approximately 60 American Soldiers a chance to attend a ten-day course instructed by Ghana Armed Forces.

The RLS provided senior leaders a venue to candidly discuss shared challenges and threats. The seminar encouraged development of a unified approach for future partnered operations.

Seven nations participated in the seminar: Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Togo and the United States.
