 About the program 
The Truscott Writing Program recognizes articles written by U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa personnel and endeavors to stimulate thought, present different viewpoints and encourage conversations that will provide understanding and focus on of Africa’s importance to American and global security.

The professional articles are written for publication and to highlight evolving tactics, techniques and procedures throughout the command. Submissions will be considered for the annual General Lucian Truscott Award for Distinguished Professional Writing.

 About Gen. Lucian K. Truscott Jr. 

Truscott commanded World War II Soldiers during a number of historic operations, including troops landing in Morocco as part of Operation Torch. In 1943, he served as the commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division in Sicily and Italy, and then of the VI Corps in Italy and Southern France from February to October 1944. He also commanded the Fifteenth Army and led the Fifth Army from December 1944 through the end of WWII. He assumed command of the Third Army in October 1945 and retired from service in 1947. On July 19, 1954, he was promoted to the rank of general by special act of the United States Congress.
