The U.S. military, in partnership with the Cameroonian Armed Forces, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, partner militaries, interagency partners, conducts the exercise Unified Focus 2017 in Douala, Cameroon, April 24-28, 2017.

UF 17 is a tabletop exercise that brings together the military partners of the MNJTF together to practice joint planning and coordination through a series of prepared vignettes. It will demonstrate their ability to work together and coordinate with non-military organizations to counter the threat and instability caused by Boko Haram and violent extremist organizations in the Lake Chad Basin area.

This is the first Unified Focus exercise. The vignettes planned for the tabletop exercise focus on the counter-Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa operations of the MNJTF with an additional focus on regional security and stability.

The end goal of UF 17 is to increase interoperability, strengthen regional partnerships and promote security and stability across the region.

Once the exercise is complete, all exercise participants will return to their home countries and stations.
