U.S. Army medical team trains in Angola

Members of a 12-person U.S. Army medical team assigned to the U.S. Army Reserve's 807th Medical Detachment (Deployment Support), partner with Angolan Armed Forces medical professionals to deliver surgical treatment to local patients during the Angola Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) held at the Hospital Militar Principal in Luanda, Angola, Nov. 8-18, 2022. MEDREX is a medical training exercise, planned and executed by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), that allows military health specialists from the U.S. Army and their African partners to exchange medical practices, procedures and techniques that build and strengthen treatment capabilities, resulting in lasting relationships between medical professionals.

Army 'docs' exchange best practices in Ghana

Members of a 19-person medical team from the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force partnered with Ghanaian military medical professionals for Medical Readiness Exercise (MEDREX) Ghana 22, from June 6-23, 2022, at the 37th Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana as part of African Lion 22. The teams work together providing medical services to patients from local communities in a variety of specialties, including orthopedics, general surgery and emergency room care. MEDREX allow military personnel from the United States and their African Partners to exchange best medical practices, procedures and techniques that build and strengthen treatment capabilities, resulting in lasting relationships between medical professionals. African Lion 22 is U.S. Africa Command's largest, premier, joint, annual exercise hosted by Morocco, Ghana, Senegal and Tunisia, June 6 - 30. More than 7,500 participants from 28 nations and NATO train together with a focus on enhancing readiness for U.S. and partner nation forces. AL22 is a joint all-domain, multi-component, and multinational exercise, employing a full array of mission capabilities with the goal to strengthen interoperability among participants and set the theater for strategic access. The USARAF Medical Readiness Exercise Concept Development Event commenced December 2-6, in Vicenza, Italy.Representatives from U.S. Army National Guard units and six African countries to include Chad, Senegal, Ghana, Ethiopia, and others are attending this year's event. MEDREX events are aligned with USARAF and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) directed joint exercises and stand-alone events with support from U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) units and U.S. Army Medical Research & Development Command through the Department of the Army (DA) with additional support from the National Guard State Partnership Program. 44th Medical Brigade XVIII Airborne Corps.

Lives saved, friendships made at MEDREX 19-2 in Senegal

Approximately 40 U.S. Army and 40 Senegalese medical professionals participated in the 18-day collaborative learning experience. It was a mutually beneficial exercise that brought together the U.S. Army and Senegalese military organizations to foster cooperation while conducting medical tasks.
