Colonel Jospeh Guido

Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché, US Embassy Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Col. Joseph Guido was born in Chicago and raised in Wisconsin. He began his military career in 1999 after graduating from the United States Military Academy, West Point, as an Infantry Officer first serving in Schweinfurt (Germany), and Kosovo. He then transitioned to Military Intelligence and served at Fort Gordon (Georgia), Iraq, and Stuttgart (Germany). He has served as a Sub-Saharan Africa Foreign Area Officer since 2010.

He received a Bachelor of Science from West Point in International History and holds a Master of Arts in African Studies from Yale University. He is also enrolled as a Global History PhD student at the University of Oxford as part of the Army Advanced Strategic Planning and Policy Program. His military schooling includes Airborne, Ranger, Combat Diver, Infantry Basic Course, Military Intelligence Advanced Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, several Security Assistance Management Courses, and the French Army Staff School.

Col. Guido has served in a variety of staff and embassy positions in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. His most recent assignment was as Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché to Somalia at the US Embassy in Mogadishu.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Award, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service.
