Lieutenant Colonel Louis M. Cascino
Senior Defense Official and Defense Attaché, U.S. Embassy Maputo, Mozambique
Lt. Col. Louis Cascino is a native of Cornwall, New York. He graduated in 2006 from the U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, and commissioned as an Armor officer. After initial officer training, LTC Cascino served as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 07-09.
Following OIF 07-09, Lt. Col. Cascino was selected for assignment to the 6th Ranger Training Battalion (RTB) at Camp James E. Rudder, Florida, where he served as a Platoon Tactical Trainer and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer. Following assignment to 6th RTB, Lt. Col. Cascino commanded Easy (A) Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) XIV, Afghanistan.
Following OEF XIV, Lt. Col. Cascino transitioned to training and service as a Foreign Area Officer. His Foreign Area Officer assignments include Security Cooperation Program Manager at the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, Gabon; Assistant Professor of French at the USMA; Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia; and Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army’s National Ground Intelligence Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Lt. Col. Cascino’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Languages from USMA and a Master of International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.
