Major Justin Knox

Career Manager for Functional Areas 48E Eurasia and 48J Africa, South of the Sahara, U.S. Army Human Resources Command

Maj. Justin A. Knox commissioned out of Officer Candidate School as an Infantry Officer in 2009.  He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University.  He is a graduate of the Infantry Basic Officer Leader’s Course, Ranger School, the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Jumpmaster Course, Command General Staff College, Joint and Combined Warfighting School and the Defense Language Institute Romanian Language Course.

His initial assignment was with 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, where he served as a Platoon Leader, Battalion Staff Officer, and Company Executive Officer at Joint Bsae Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA.  He served one combat tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2012 in Kandahar Province.

Following the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course in 2014, Maj. Knox was assigned to 4th Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Airborne). He served as Brigade Chief of Operations in garrison and deployed in support of Kosovo Forces Rotation 18. Maj. Knox assumed Command of Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry Airborne (3-509 IN ABN) July 2015.  He then assumed Command of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3-509 IN (ABN) in May 2016. He served as Senior Infantry Advisor in 196th Infantry Brigade, Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, AK in 2017 and was selected for Foreign Area Officer accession in 2018.  He has completed Romanian language course, JFAOC, CGSC at Fort Belvoir, VA, the FACT course, In-Region Training at GCMC, and received a master’s at Johns Hopkins University. Maj. Knox’s current assignment is the 48E and 48J Career Manager at HRC.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, The NATO Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three OLC, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.
