Colonel Jörn Pung

Senior Defense Official / Defense Attaché, USDAO Tunis, Tunisia

Col. Pung was born and raised in Minnesota and began his military career as an Engineer Officer upon graduation from the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point in 1997.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from USMA. He holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri – Science & Technology and a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies from Georgetown University. His military schooling includes Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger School, Engineer Officer Basic & Advanced Course, and Command and General Staff Course.

Col. Pung has served in many command and staff positions in the United States of America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Notable assignments include Security Cooperation Chief in Muscat, Oman; Senior Defense Official / Defense Attaché in Khartoum, Sudan; and Security Cooperation Chief in Ankara, Turkey. His most recent assignment was as the Senior Defense Official / Defense Attaché in Muscat, Oman.

Awards and decorations that he has received include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Senior Parachutist Badge, Army Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, and Combat Action Badge.
